There’s an increasing demand for herbal and natural-based products in Malaysia, but this comes as no surprise. The country’s diverse, multicultural backgrounds have contributed to the growth of this industry – by the end of 2020, it not only hit RM35billion in market value, but also boosted the national income at RM2.2billion.
This presents a huge opportunity to grow Malaysia’s herbal industry – potentially making Malaysia one of the leading countries to develop international standards for herbal and traditional products. But the industry’s rapid growth comes at a price: there’s a lack of transparency in product information. Often, these products promise false claims, and contain misleading ingredients that are actually harmful to the human body. On top of that, herbal sellers have limited sales outreach and financing support. It doesn’t help that there’s a pandemic still looming, with the end nowhere near in sight.
This is why Dropee partnered with Human Life Advancement Foundation (HLAF) to launch Herbee, an e-commerce platform that offers a vast selection of herbal and natural products in Malaysia.
The launch of Herbee was officiated by YBhg. Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad, the former Prime Minister of Malaysia, and Chairman of HLAF, on 12 January 2021.
“Herbee is a giant step in making herbal and natural products safe to be consumed. It will greatly influence the biotech industry’s overall expansion and specifically defines and guides the industry players to meet market expectations and demands,” said YBhg. Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad.
There was also a panel discussion at the launch event, where leaders of the herbal industry discussed the challenges and opportunities in the era of the industry revolution 4.0.
