Sheikh Yousef Abdul Latif Jameel

Yousef Jameel is a prominent Saudi Arabian business leader, a philanthropist and a family member of the Abdul Latif Jameel Group of Companies. He graduated in Economics from AUC in 1968. He is the first AUC graduate to receive the Distinguished Alumni Award in 1981.

In 2008, Mr. Jameel received an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from AUC in recognition of his outstanding achievements, valuable contribution and support in research and development.

In recent years, he has concentrated efforts in research and development for the good of humanity thus, succeeded in initiating scientific research in fields such as cancer treatment, optics and nanotechnology and electronics in Switzerland, Singapore and Japan. Mr. Jameel was also the one responsible in establishing the Yousef Jameel Science and Technology Research Center that conducts cutting-edge research in nanotechnology in AUC.

In 2004, he founded the Jameel MBA Fellows Program to help train future industrial leaders and in addition, established an endowed professorship in his father’s name in the management department.

The YJ-STRC was established in 2003 through a generous donation of Mr. Yousef Jameel. At that time, there were no research facilities in Egypt capable of developing micro/nano devices. Mr. Jameel had the vision to create a center of excellence in the field of nano-technology in AUC. To achieve this goal with limited resources available, the faculty of Sciences and Engineering formulated an initiative to realize the objective.

The online centre was created by The Oxford University, Ashmolean Museum Eastern Art Online under the name of Yousef Jameel Centre of Islamic and Asian Art.
